Best Wrasse??
« on: February 12, 2012, 14:16:59 »
What are peoples thoughts on the best wrasse for this situation.

180g established mixed reef.
Looking for the best and brightest color possible.
very minimal sand bed, maybe 1 inch in places but alot less for the most part
would like it to pick at sps pests, aefw, red bugs, etc

Please no one say sixline. I am looking for a reef friendly wrasse. My wife likes the green coris wrasse. So lets hear some opinions. I'm going to purchase something asap!

Will also need 2 more wrasse for my barebottom 30g breeder frag tanks.
Firefighting:  How hard can it be?  You just put the wet stuff on the red stuff right?

57 Rimless SPS/LPS in the works

OLD:180g mixed reef, 60g sump, 2 30g frag tanks, 30g macro algae tank.  300g total system.

Melanurus Wrasse. It likes deep sand but mine does fine in 1" sand bed. If you like them Coral Ranch gets them in frequently. Be sure to get Male they are much nice looking. Sorry ladies.

Here is mine from Coral Ranch

I have also read about the cosmetus wrasse, and the vroliks.  Any ideas about them?

Melanurus Wrasse.

What the heck you feeding that thing lazy :)

I love my 6line and I have a radiant wrasse too.    Leopard wrasse are sweet looking too, but they can be finicky eaters.

Shovel out for the Mystery Wrasse, it will take your breath away....

All of the above mentioned wrasses are exceptional for the job you mentioned. We didn't have very good luck with the potters leopard wrasse though (spent hours acclimating and still poof! died in 24 hours with perfect parameters and no aggression)

On a similar note, we are planning on getting two melanurus, one mystery (eventually) and either a leopard or radiant for our display and a green coris for the frag tank. Most of these are non aggressive to each other, I was just wanting to ask the experts if anyone had any issues with too many smaller wrasses that I should watch out for.

The winner of the TOTM for reef central is a wrasse junky... Take a look to get an idea of which you like.
