Coral dip/prevention
« on: September 06, 2012, 09:20:16 »
I am extremely picky about what tanks I buy frags/corals from, I honestly have never dipped nor quarentined any frags, So far all is well. However I have come to the realization I should atleast be dipping at the bare minimum. SOOOOooo... My quetion is, What dips does everyone use, where are you buying them(anyone local), and what's the process everyone uses... I have a general idea of what I want to use/do, but I'd like ot hear some personal experience.

Everything we bring in is dipped in Coral Pro RX. I think it is the best available dip on the market.

I dip everything that goes into my home tank also, no matter where it comes from.

I don't have a coral qt. I am going to start cutting plugs off. Coral RX, inspect what feel off in the mix. Nothing will ever go in my tank with out dipping again. When I started in this hobby I wish I would have taken the advise I had gotten more to heart. Sorry about the rant.

I think it happens to most all of us Joe at one point or another,

I know I should be; but I am not.......I am just lucky enough that I don't have anything that I know of, I have paid attention and looked for things, and haven't yielded anything, but I have decided I will take more of a preventive setup... I plan on getting a coral frag tank and qt tank together, but right now I just don't have the time/resources to tackle it all.

Jon I will be out your way tomorrow after work to grab me some.

So to be safe one would need a frag tank, coral qt, fish qt all on seperate systems? So a total of 4 system including dt? This is getting heavy. lol

You can link your frag into your main system...

You wouldn't want to link your QT with DT nor your coral QT with Fish QT

and you don't NEED a Frag tank unless your Name is lazylivin........... but they sure are cool looking and a big help, not needed though, I have seen plenty of intank frag rack setups that look great using the dt as a frag tank

Most run frag tanks attached to their main display......mainly for simplicity, and maintaining water quality.

A coral QT system and fish QT system need to be separate.   And since fish are typically QT'd with medication, corals and inverts can never go in this tank.

A coral QT system can be as simple as a bucket, air pump and heater, and light.    Just be sure to keep water parameters stable.
