Where the %$#!! did the starfish go???

We had like a zillion asterina starfish in our 90g.  Over the last 36 hours all are gone.  We have like 8-10 left.  There were hundreds.  What happened?

Either somebody got hungry, they ran outta food or you got some chemistry issues that affected them? I know that when I upgraded skimmers I went from having a ton of those to now I have them but they are much fewer in number.

I added a biopellet reactor last week.  Tank is suddenly much cleaner and the algae is receding.
