So I've been on here for awhile now. Wasn't sure on how to introduce myself. But as I reaching out to a couple of members. Everybody has been extremely nice and have answered all my question. So here is my tank. The only problem I am having is my zoas are not opening? I am dosing fuel 2 times a week. I bought it at gerbers they told me it works well. But being new to this I have no idea if I'm doing it right or not. I had this tank up and running for about a year now.

Looks really nice Josh. Make sure you get your parameters checked.
-
I sure will. Thanks for all your suggestion what could be wrong I'm starting my ro water in the morning hope to have it ready time I get off work. Thanks again
-
Nice setup. Love the trigger :)
Question: do you run carbon ?
-

ok, if I remember right Chemi-pure is basically a Carbon\GFO mix
-
is that a good thing or bad. like i said i am new to trying to keep corals. not new to saltwater just the coral aspect.

Not bad at all, just an observation :)
I run Carbon all the time and gfo as needed separately. I do this only for the cost effectiveness as it's cheaper for me in the long run.
As far as I know Chemi-pure is a good one thing does both product
-
Are you running a skimmer?
Sorry but I am not familiar with your setup :)
-
Yes I'm running 150 gl coralife cone skimmer
-
I'll take a picture when I get off work of my sump
-
To figure out why your zoas are not opening, you should test the "Big 3". Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium. When my zoas weren't opening its because my alk was really low (like 6dkh).
-
Also, what salt are you using ?

What are acceptable Parameters for the big 3
-

I'm used Neomarine salt.
-
Alkalinity : 125-200 ppm
Calcium : 380-450 ppm
Magnesium : 1250-1350 ppm
Arbitrary lol

What are acceptable Parameters for the big 3
Alkalinity: 8-12 dkh (I stay around 9.5)
Calcium: 380-450 ppm (I stay around 420)
Mag: 1300-1400 ppm (I stay around 1350)

ALK on the high side will smoke them too, so will low mag.

I live in Englewood, if you would like I can test for you some evening or on the weekend.

let me check with the boss (wife) first to see if i can get a good kit for it. thanks for the offer. i found a red sea kit for $60. is that a good price? but if she says not right now i would be greatful if you could test my water. thank you
-
I tend to recommend the Salifert Kits
-
I agree Salifert are great
However, I use API. They are more cost effective on the household budget.
I've never used a Red Sea kit so I can't give an opinion.. Although I do use Red Sea Coral Pro salt
-
Which Red Sea? I use the Red Sea Pro kits, I would not use the plain Red Sea kits.
The Red Sea reef foundation pro kit is a good kit, does alk, ca and mg. that should run about $45
-
I have found API for CA and ALK to be pretty dependable and accurate, cheaper also. Sailfert for Mag. I had an issue in the past but I wasn't testing much and the kit got old and was giving bad test results, have seen Sailfert kits do the same thing. I borrowed a Red Sea Pro Kit from a friend once, also accurate and fairly easy to use.

Where did you find that at? Just wondering

Don't salifert cost more? I have 3 kids witch one has special needs so money is tight. But the salt water gets my mind free and clear

Help what is wrong with my fish?
-
are the spots red or black...kinda hard to tell
-
If they are not "cheating" on their Nem and getting stung by some other coral in the tank; you might want to read up on black ich.
I'm not saying that is the problem, just a thought.

Yes, but API does not make a Mag test kit. The API are fine for Cal and Alk. You can order them online real cheap sometimes. Check Amazon, Big Al's.
-
Your fish appear to have marine velvet, as for treatment, I would get them into a hospital tank and treat with copper, maybe Brian can shed more light, as I know he has dealt with this before.

I have an API alk kit if you want it, I won't ever use it again, now that I have a Hanna digital alk meter.
-
no offense a6walter1 but that doesn't look like velvet to me.
Anyone else want to chime in on this ?
Regardless, getting them into a QT tank is a solid idea. And keep an eye on your other fish.
-
None of my other fish have it. From what I've read it's either black ick or it is sting from the corals where the clowns are trying to host either my zoas or my mushrooms. But everybody that I have talked to thinks it's ick.
-
Keep us posted and good luck
-
I agree black ick or they are being stung from trying to host. My clowns looked just like that when they first started hosting.

Fair enough, I have never dealt with a disease like this before, so I just did a quick google search and found some pictures that looked similar to his fish.

No worries :matrix-smiley-007:

thank you for all your guys help. as of right now i cant put up another tank so i'm going to ride it out and hope its from them hosting.
-
My clown looked like that when it started to host with a new anemone. It eventually went away. Hope that is the same for yours.
