lighting on a 30 gallon rimless
« on: May 03, 2020, 12:18:13 »
looking to get back into the hobby. Back when I was in it was all MH's

looking for a good light to keep softies and LPS - do not have the means to mount or hang from the wall or ceiling

tank is approximately:
24" long
19.5" wide
16.5" deep

Thoughts about:
Kessil A360 (mounted via mounting arm or gooseneck mount)
OceanRevive Arctic t247-B Full spectrum Dimmable LED light - legs to sit on edge of aquarium
Noopsyche K7 PRO II mounted on back of tank

I am new as well and went through the same process.  After researching and reading tons of reviews, I settled on two Noopsyche K7 PRO II for my 55 gallon tank due to price and options.  The controller requires a little bit of a learning curve but you can setup 5 channels over 7 different time periods of the day.  If you head over to reef2reef, there is a Noopsyche vendors page with tons of info.  I cannot say how well they grow coral since I am only on week 2 of my cycle and my aquarium is currently only has live rock.

I have a 24x24x8 inch frag tank and I’m using an A360WE as well as an A150 to light it. They just don’t seem to be enough, too much shading but that could be due to the lack of reflection from an acrylic tank. My 12x12x12 cube does awesome with a single A150 but it benefits from reflection on low iron glass.

Good point about the shading/areas not covered  - was worried about that with the A360 being a single light on a gooseneck holder

Wonder about the newer Kessil a360x with wifi module -

Or is there something better out there for that amount of money ($500+)

Toby here in the club has a single A360x on his IM lagoon 24x20x12 and it’s beautiful. My problem might be acrylic vs glass since those lights depend heavily on taking advantage of reflection. Gets expensive though when you add in the mounting arm and controller/WiFi dongle.

2 AI Prime16HDs might work really well!

A single noopsyche with a controller and mounting arm is $240. I use one on my 25gal cube and I really like it.

But, with that being said, I have been thinking of switching to ocean revive lights for my new tank, nothing wrong with the noopsyche, just thinking of trying them instead, I’ve seen some nice growth with them, lazy has amazing luck with them as far as I know!

It might make sense as I get back into this to go with something like noopsyche or ocean revive and spend the other money that would of been spent on something like a 360x on good love rock and various corals

Heinboughb the jbj I bought is glass curved rimless 30 gallons AIO tank -

Salt arrives today, sand on Tuesday, light on Friday - now I have to figure out a stand
