Checking light shift with a Prism??
« on: November 01, 2009, 12:18:12 »
I was talking to someone a while back who said they had read something on the ablity to check for spectrum shift in bulbs with a prism.  Technically it makes sense, but i dont know how you would remember a picture of the "control" spectrum of a new bulb or how easy it would be to differentiate.

Has anyone read anything on this, i couldnt find anything on google.  Sounds plausible, and would be great to change bulbs when they actually shift vs every X months, and waste bulb life

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

i would imagine if you looked through the prism and saw more red than you did after the bulb burned in that would mean the spectrum is starting to shift

You can buy a spectrum meter on ebay pretty cheap. I have one that I bought from Sean Dankin a while back. He said he bought it on ebay. It is very easy to use.

It was me Wes that you were talking to about using a prism to see what the spectrum is. It does work if you know what you are looking for. look up a light spectrum chart to find out what the bulbs are supposed to be then look through the prism see if the color is the same or how different. that is a very easy way to see if you need a bulb change or not!!

What kind of prism exactly are you referencing?
