Welcome aboard Matt! I'm current Treasurer here at Ohio Reef. Its always great to meet new faces on here. How did you hear about us? If you're looking for shops, check the banners at the top of the page. Our four local sponsors have some of the best selection and prices around. Aquatic Specialists and Coral Ranch both have great coral and fish. Marine Solutions is home to the world famous MSX skimmers and Coral Pets is a new shop that has hit the ground running with coral and fish. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the site and welcome back to the hobby!  Like JD said, we have four great sponsors that have a good selection and prices - they come club recommended!  There are other stores in the area such as Jacks like you already mentioned & Gerber's.  There's nothing right in the Beavercreek area, but if you'll drive 20 minutes, you can get to a few.

If you're wanting to save a few bucks to get back in the hobby, we have our 2nd annual frag swap coming up on June 19th in Miamisburg (just south of you).  Sometimes you can get great deals on used equipment and nice corals.

Were you involved in a local club in Virginia Beach (btw, very jealous you are from there!)  We look forward to hearing about your past tank(s) as well.

yeah, i am still a member of a club down there in virginia beach. HRRC if anyone wants to check it out. i am a lil home sick sometimes, but i think ohio is pretty cool.

we dont have a tank yet, but will soon enough, wanna set up a 75, but the wife wants bigger actually (pretty cool). but employment is still an issue for me at the moment. we had to pick up n leave due to her bein stationed up here in the USAF. anyways, ill be on here quite a bit (nothing else to do), so ill ttyl.

LOL, we were discussing this in the moderator section.  We were guessing why there were two similar screennames joining suddenly.  :)

thanks to all for the warm welcome. i had a 125 set up in va, ran t5s and halides. mainly softies, shrooms, and a bunch of lps (my favs) never had too much interest in sps i guess. i had two caps in there that did well, and a green slimer that was real pretty, but other than that, no sps. i had two maroon clowns (male and female), yellow wrasse, powder blue tang, scopas tang, and two green cromis. tried a manderan once, but those dragonets are hard to deal with in my opinion.

next time, i wanna go smaller, with less fish. i was thinkin about custom building a tank with a drop off shelf. kinda like a knocked over "L" on the bottom to create a natural reef barrier, and separate deeper corals from shallow dwelling corals a little easier.

do any shops around here custom build acrylic tanks?

I guess I should have asked which way the L was going to be pointed, are you looking for a drop off like a cliff or just a L shape on its side.  Either way  if we went with a 36"L x 24"w x 18" with a drop of 36" you would be right at 100 gallons.  If we made it 30" x 24" x 18 with a drop of 30" we would be right around 70 gallons.  I would say the thinnest acrylic used would be 1/2 " thick and we would need about two full sheets.

well im lookin for the clif effect, but i really dont want the drop too much deeper than the rest of the tank. maybe another foot deeper. but 36 would be geat for the deepest part of it.
