Sump design
« on: July 02, 2010, 17:49:08 »
Hey all,

I am trying to wrap my head around a sump layout.  It would be best to put the cheato cell before the skimmer right?  Reasoning, the skimmer would remove what the cheato feeds off of correct?

I am of the opinion that its negligible. Skimmers neither work that well, or clean all of the water passing by its chamber. I consider macro more of an overall reducer of n/p vs an active one.

As JD said likely not much of a difference either way. However if it makes no difference in your layout consider skimmer first. Two reasons, pieces of cheato could clog the skimmer pump and the farther water has to move before returning to display the less likely you are to get skimmer micro bubbles.
