The tank was off for a water change today so I took few look down shots. Here is my clam and GBTA:

Nice Pics Micki,
I'm going out on a limb here......
You sure thats a bulb / bubble tip anemone?
Looks alot more like a Long Tentacle (macrodactyla Doreensis)
Either way, great looking stuff.....

Thanks Joel! Yep I'm positive it's a GBTA. I bought it about the size of a 50 cent piece over 2 years ago. It was the perfect looking bubble tip anemone. It split two weeks later and hasn't had "true" bubbles ever since. It has split at least 5-6 times since then. Every one that I have given away has looked like this except for the one I gave Travis, his is awesome!

love the clam :)
-
Yeah I got it from a pretty cool place too! ;D
-
Micki, did you say you had a GBTA under pc's? I am thinking of using 2- 96w pc's on my 65g and putting a Anemone of sort in that tank. wasent sure if that would be enough light. Also what type of pc's did you use, 50/50 or 10k ?
-
Yep I've had a few GBTA under PC lighting. I had 4 50/50 65 watt PC lights and no problems at all with the anemone.
-
cool, i think i will give it a try
-
FWIW, My GBTA is under VHOs and is growing like a weed!
-
Gary's GBTA is one of my grandchildren! ;D
-
how big do they get and how often do they split?
-
Some people have them split a lot some never. Mine tends to only split when I move them from one tank to another. They can get very big. I stopped feeding mine over a year or so ago because it was getting too big too fast.

Makes me wonder if there are more than one anemone that is being called a bubble tip. I get them in and from time to time one comes in a little different that the others. I've never seen one that lacks tentacles in the center, that's whay I wondered if it was a long tentacle. It's weird how some have the bulbs / bubbles on the tips of thier tentacles and others don't. Well, what ever they all are, they sure are neat!!!!
I agree that they, and several other specie of anemone will do fine under VHO / PC's.
-
I'm not sure. I'll have to see if I have any pictures of this one when I first got it. It was beautiful! Bright green and very pretty bubbles. I don't remember if I had it a few days or a few weeks but it split and the two lived happily with no bubbles. Maybe Travis can chime in and show us a picture of his "bubble" tip anemone. His is BEAUTIFUL!!! I've seen it in person and I can't believe it's one that I gave him!
-
I'll have to dig around and see if I can find some pics of it. Mine looked like Micki's when I got it from her. I had it under T5 lighting, then switched to a single ended 400 watt XM bulb. After that, the bubble came back and it turned an electric green...it's been like that ever since.

This is the only pic I have of it from my old tank. It's down towards the middle left...I didn't doctor the pic either.

I read somewhere that most BT's tend to lose the "bubble tips" not long after they are added to a tank. It was in a forum somewhere. Sorry for not having any add'l info on the post, but has anyone else heard this?
BTW... nice looking tank Micki.
-
Thanks rmstevensiii! I've read that too. I think it happens a lot but as I said with Travis's it's neon and has it's bubbles. I wish he had a bigger pictures it's cool!

The bubble tips or lack thereof probably have something to do with flow ;) :D
