« on: November 03, 2011, 19:28:22 »
Anyone got a used but working 250w 14k - 20k bulb I could use for a week or so? The ebay bulb I have now is pink in color and I am going to order a new one tomorrow but I need to find something to use until then.

Brian (lazylivin) you are the man. I was always told you could not run a 400w bulb on a 250w ballast because it would not fire. Brian said his tank is being ran with 400w bulbs ran at 250w, so I tried it. I pulled out an old 400w blueline bulb and hooked it to my 250w ballast and wow, it looks good. I would assume that a 250w bulb would also work on a 175w ballast.

Yep thats all I did. fired like normal and after 20minutes the ballast was still cool to the touch. Gonna check it I want to see if it gets hotter/cooler when running a 400w bulb.

I got right at 7 months before it started to shift color. It still works and fires blue but after a few hours it shifts to a pink color.
