Title: Large Birdsnest: is it typical to see dye-off/bleaching at base?
Post by: jayare on April 15, 2020, 16:34:01
As the title suggests, see the attached photo. I have a few large birdsnests corals, and the bottom parts, that don't get any light, have some dye-off and bleaching. The corals continue to grow really well, just wondering if this typically happens to the bases of these type of corals?

I have experienced the same thing with several different BN colonies.

I also have that issue when they get large. I used to cut a nice healthy chunck and restart the colony each 1.5 ish years to keep it looking. Nice
