New old tank needs cleaned
« on: April 14, 2014, 09:55:52 »
I was extremely fortunate to find a beautiful 90 gallon acrylic tank that has never been used. It has been sitting in a guys garage for 12 years. Never had holes drilled in it. Naturally, the tank is dirty from just sitting on a stand in the garage. What do you recommend for me to clean it with? I am ready to get this new project started. :)

If it is just normal dust/dirt you should be able to wash it with tap water.  With maybe a final wipe down with a lint free cloth and a little RO/DI to moisten the cloth/paper towel.

You might want to fill it up while it is in garage or outside (if it won't freeze) for a couple/few days to check the seals to make sure they are OK.  Visually checking the seals for damage would be good also.  A little paranoia now could save you a mess later.
