Has anybody ordered glass for special projects?  Just wondering what experiences have been.  I got a 'minor' recommendation for Affordable Glass in Huber from a friend, and I've ordered some peices from them.  Come to find out, they actually don't cut the 3/8" glass themselves so they ordered it from 'somebody' pre-cut.  Price seemed cheap enough, but I only called one other shop in Kettering that was ridiculous.   I might need some more peices for my 'upgrade 180 stupidity' project.

Okay, cool.  Might try those 2 tomorrow.  Looks like I called Gates Brothers in Kettering, and they we kinda high for just regular cut glass.

I ordered glass for my sump from Xenia Glass and Lock I was pleased with it.  There number is 937-372-7171, when I called around it seemed as though most of the shops were pretty close on pricing.  The reason I went with Xenia Glass is because it was close.

Kettering glass did my smoked glass calfo.  Had it cut in a few hours

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

how hard is it to make the "frame" if you are making your own aquarium out of temp glass? or are you just ordering pieces for baffles?

I just a ridiculous quote from Kettering glass.  I had to call him back to make sure I heard right and he had the correct measurments.  Eurobracing my 180:  1/2" glass, 72" x 3" x 2 and 72" x 3.5 " x 2 = $600!   $150 each.   Not sure if the guy didn't have his coffee yet or what.  He had to have punched something wrong in the calculator, like the guy did yesterday on the Stock Exchange.....   I will call back next week.

I've got a call in with Affordable Glass in huber to check prices there, but she has to call in to somebody to give me a quote.

I do have the 1/4" prices from Affordable glass of basically $9.75 per strip, so if needed, I may be stacking 1/4" strips.  I'm sure the 1/2" glass would be better, but not at that price.

Beginning to wonder if my 380 gallon acrylic with exactly the calfo, overflow boxes and bracing I wanted for $2000 wouldn't have been cheaper....hrm, my wife the Realtor does have a closing today!  "Honey, about that commision check.... remember how you spent my bonus on a cruise... well...  "

Seems to be a running theme in this hobby.  Extreme DIYers save money, while the rest of us average to below-average DIYers spend about the same if we had just bought the stuff outright.

Wow, way too much for eurobracing a tank.  Guess I'll look at laminating two 1/4" strips together.  That is only $10x2.

I built a Refuge out of a 55 gallon tank, went to Gates walked in gave measurements and walked out 30 minutes with my glass, as expensive i dont know, heres what i got from them....1- 10.5" x 12... 1- 9.5" x 12 and 2- 7" x 12" all 1/4" with edges rounded and polished...tax, and out the door $18.00 sounded resonable to me, might be high dont really know

Hunger, you said "3/8 should be good or even 1/2 should  work fine ", did you mean "3/8 should be good or even 1/4 should  work fine"?  The 1/2 is what is so expensive, and since you said.

After picking up my 3/8" glass from Affordable Glass today, I'm pretty convinced that one peice of 3/8" 3" wide attached to the inside, and one 3/8" 3 1/2" wide peice attached to the top (like Joel suggests) would be plenty.  Seems thicker than 3/8", maybe it is the weight.

Anyways, I've got 'visual' problems with my design now so not sure what I'm doing with the glass.  I'll try to post a pick in the '180 upgrade stupidity' post.

Going to try and post some pictures.... not sure yet.  One big thing is that I didn't order black/smoked glass for my calfo coast-to-coast, and I was counting on paint or a vinyl back.  Let me take some pics and discuss....

Any idea on local glass shops that actually cut their own 3/8" glass?  Both Kettering and Affordable have to 'call it in' to another shop and get it delivered, which takes about 4 days.   Seems like most shops will go as thick as 1/4" and thats it on doing it themselves.
