kal -vs- pickling lime

i recently aquired a gravity drip and would liketo try it out. does anybody have any preference as to what should go in it? kalkwasser or pickling lime, or something else? if so, what/how much do you use in a gallon?

i used kalk for mine....follow directions.  I think mine was some many tablespoons per gallon ...

I mix 2 tablespoons of Mrs Wages pickling lime per gallon of water.

Kalkwasser is German for lime water.

Pickling lime is the same stuff as the name brands.  Just be sure to use a food grade one like Mrs. Wages

Just pay the extra 10 cents and get the Kalkwasser...I am always amazed that people will spend thousands of dollars on lighting and corals and shipping and electric bills, but wont spend 3.99 on a pound of kalk....seriously people

My Kroger's has pickling lime for $2.49 or something like that. Jack's wants $10 for a jar of kalkwasser half the size.

verper - two things, i just bought some lights from travis (250w) and am in need of a couple of ballasts, any suggestions?

also, i bought some mrs. wages pickling lime ($2.50 per jar) at krogers. what else can i use to dose my tank? anybody have any recommendations on any of these suppliments on the market? i don't want to under-dose my tank, and i certainly don't want to over-dose it either.

I suggest www.hellolights.com for ballasts. ARO make some good inexpensive ballasts. I don't have any experience with their MH ballasts but I do I use ARO VHO ballasts and have had good luck with them.
