Title: cleanest LFS in Ohio: Aquariums, Etc
Post by: aquavista99 on June 09, 2006, 10:59:37
I have visited numerous local fish shops around the state and Midwest, and based on what I observed, Joel and Aquariums, Etc runs the cleanest fish shop around (i.e, excellent water quality and healthy livestock). Unlike most others, Joel uses very large sumps for his filtration systems and has several large macroalgae sumps filled with mangroves, cheato and other macros in operation as well.

Great place!   Joel is awesome!   I plan to keep going there for a long while (too bad my tanks are filled).  I am working on getting my parents to go there for pond fish at some point.  They are still stuck on Gerbers, but I think they are to the point they don't get anything but water from there.  I keep trying to get them to take a day and go LFS jumping where we will stop at Marine solutions (I think that is the name), Just Coral, and Aquarium ETC, and anywhere else she has the urge to go to.  I think that iwll come this summer.

I am NOT a big fan of seeing dirty aquarium setups with dead or sick fish or corals being exposed to bad water and inadequate lighting. Aquariums Etc is the exception, not the rule, when it comes to exceeding my expectations!!!

Choice Aquariums (Farmington/Detroit, MI) is another shop that does an excellent job with providing quality livestock with well maintained filtration systems.

Be sure to check the water you get from them, in the past people have purchased RO water that was no better then tap water.  So be carefull!!!!

With Joel's place.... yea... great place!!!!

I cannot wait for his pond stuff to be setup :)

Viggen,
I know my parents check their water.  A year ago (after their fire) we started doing that when we discovered the water did not have much salt in it whatsoever. I was doing water changes witht his water and got my water down to 1.011 before realizing what was going on.

i can bring in a case(maybe 2 or 3) of naddy light for that pink eichnophora?!?!?!?!?!?!

gerbers gerbers gerbers....

lets see... i tested the "ro" water there. it tested out at 389ppm... my WELL water is 430...
saltwater is usually always 1.021-1.023...
we once found a MOUSE dead in the sw vat...
there is a fair ammount of burnt paint(from fire) that falls in the vats...
imo, kent salt sucks. hard to keep alk stable.

there are 5 reasons to stay away from gerbers.

marine solutions is a neat place for frags. just be super sure you do NOT get any hydroids(brown fern looking things) from their system in yours.
