Hamilton Lighting
« on: October 24, 2006, 21:23:11 »
Well, I've had the hamilton lights for a few weeks now.  I have to say Travis was right!  My SPS that were looking very brown and "blah" looking are really starting to make some color changes!  I'm hoping it continues.  I've noticed what used to be purple is starting to become purple again and what was green then went to browon is starting to become green again.  My slimer also has TONS of polyps!  The rest of the corals don't but for some reason that one does.  I hope this continues, if so I'm recomending them to everyone!  LOL

illnino micki beat this issue into the ground and found china but never fund polyp extension.  Trust me she has been obsessive about this and I would be too but there is just something about their tank or the air in her house that makes her SPS not extend there polyps.

I am confused, I have always read that you want lots of flow and with the flow comes polyps. Is this not true

Thanks Scott, you are correct!  bsinger, for most that is true.  However, there is an exception to every rule and apparently I am one of them.  :)

It's probably that polluted Lockington air!!!!! The polyps can only stand so much THC in the water!!!!

lol...

the only other thing i could think it would be would be water quality(protien skimmer)

the three things you mainly need are

water quality
lighting
flow...

have you tested your alk, mg, ca, ph?

Believe me I've done everything.  I have an ASM G4 skimmer.   It's a dead horse. :)

Micki, What are your tank specs? do you have any pictures of your tank? Do you have a website with all this information?

I am insterested in seeing pictures. My understanding from when I was reseaching my tank was those overflows could only handle about 600gph and I would need pumps to get the current in the tank enough for SPS. I just wondered if you are doing that way if I could remove my extra pumps.

I have a very large sump and fuge and 40 gallon extra tank in the sump room downstairs.  I wanted to be able to have all of my equipment in the sump room and have the main display tank for just that.  I personally don't like equipment in the display tank.  So that was my goal and it was accomplished.  I did place a PH in the main tank once when I thought that was the problem with my SPS not having any polyp extention.  I hated the look and it didn't make any difference in my SPS.  So I took it back out.

I do have an external pump that pumps the entire system. It's a blue line 40HD pump.  It does the job for me.  I do have to clean out the over flows from time to time due to some macro growth. In fact it's time to do that again right now.  :)

hmmm wonder if I could get away with it too, every tank I have ever seen with corals has had some type of extra flow. What kind of macro growth you seeing?
