copepods/amphipods/mysis?
« on: February 21, 2009, 19:12:12 »
Anyone selling live copepods/amphipods/mysis? Prefer local but my local is from Tipp City down to Cincinnati and anywhere in between. Just let me know. Thanks,

Jerry

I know Monforts sells them.  I was there last night and I think a cp with cheato was $5.00

Thanks... any sponsor want to order Zoo2 Tisbe biminiensis or DT's Live Marine Copepods or possibly Reef Nutritions Tigger-Pods on a fairly regular basis? I don't know how many are in the Zoo2 or Dt's product compared to the Tigger Pods but I'm looking for two to four bottles per month (possibly more). Just let me know.

Gerbers is working on the tigerpods and that line of live reef food and I brought a bottle of DT's phytoplanton 15.oz for $29. They have larger and smaller bottles. By the way; their shop is looking a lot better and live stock selection and reef is showing the TLC that Byron has been putting into it.

I've been importing them from either Columbus (a reefer on CORA - Hollback) and/or Florida from Sachs System Aquaculture ( http://www.aquaculturestore.com/index.html ). I now know that Coral Ranch sell pods straight from their tanks (just have to call and let them know you want them) so next time I need some, I'm going to them.

No, they don't carry any live mysis. I haven't found any in the state of Ohio for sale which is why I get mine shipped in from Florida. I talked to Aquatic Speciaties about it and they were willing to order it, but didn't know what kind of demand there was for live mysis except for me. I know I talked to 6-8 other people about it on here and other local boards but couldn't find the messages to get a total on it. I pay the prices on Sachs website for mine shipped (approx $38 for 200 shipped). I tried their CSS (common shore shrimp), but they were too large for the pipefish (roughly 1-1.5") where the mysis are the perfect size.

How many do you guys want? I normally order 200-300 or so and plan on ordering on Tuesday afternoon. If you just want 30-50, I'll just split them off my normal order. If you guys want 100+, I'll just order more. Just let me know.

There are others...keywords to use in google are: culturing mysis

Here is a pretty good document as well --> http://www.mblaquaculture.com/assets/docs/MBL_AQ_Mysid_Generator.pdf

I can't culture them myself as you really need multiple aquariums to do it right (atleast from everything I've read) and my wife has said no more tanks. If either of you decide to try your hand, let me know as I'm interested in buying some fairly regularly.

I will have to pass on this buy, I am going out of town for Easter and wont return until next monday.  I will also need to get the phyto and whatever intermediate food up and running.  How often do you order?

I normally put in an order every week or two...just depends on various factors. Check out their website as they have various rotifer/micro-algae cultures available but I don't know if they are priced competitively or not on those. I'll shoot you a PM next time I put an order in if I can remember

Duane/Justin: you've got a PM.
