PVC
« on: February 07, 2010, 22:31:33 »
After tons of anguish, I'm putting together the 180's sump AGAIN. For those of you that don't know what's been going on, the pump pushes the water up faster than it drains into the sump. I was using Eshopps hoses that they don't make short enough. They're ribbed, so you can't cut them. This time I'm using PVC as Justin from AS recommended.

For everyone using PVC to run the water from the tank to the sump, do you
1) just fit the PVC together
2) use silicone around the outside of the joints
3) PVC cement it

What worries me about PVC cement is that once it's connected, I can't take it apart for cleaning.

I am using screw type PVC joint connectors ( coupling ) in our new sump. I like them a lot so far.

I'm using coupling too, but it's not threaded. Is yours?

I hate to hijack the thread but where does everyone find pvc hose barbs?  I looked at Lowe's twice and I can never seem to find them?  I used regular PVC with cement, I did put a union by the pump but it's a pain to get off because it's at the bottom of my sump in my stand.  I'm planning on cutting the plumbing next week to add a filter sock.  I'm also planning to put the union up higher so I don't have to get in my sump to get the pump off.

Lowes has them, but in a different area, usually next isle over. Menards has a little better selection, I think anyways.

I used PVC on my last build but thinking about using spa tubing on my next one. The reason is they can be cut to length are flexible and think the would hav less vibration noise. Still undecided.

I wish there was a menards closer to my house but at a minimum it takes me 50 minutes to get to one.
