WTB: Generator
« on: March 21, 2010, 23:23:29 »
With storm season coming looking to procure a used, small, quiet newer model generator. 500w-2000w would be fine. If anyone has one or comes across good deals surfing the internet let me know.
Thanks

I get the extra money I may upgrade to this one. It would be nice to have the extra power.

Is Audi's a store? I have not heard of it. Do you happen to have an address or web link?

Mike did you know that the second one you posted says it runs on propane?

I will have to check out Harbor Freight today, they are right next to my work.

Thanks

Yep thats why I want it. I have an extra tank since I quit using a gas grill. Menards has a 24hour gas exchange center so You can get gas when ever you need it.

Would it also be quieter being propane?

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions where to go. I picked up an 800w generator at Harbor Freight for 109$. (Thanks Dave) Should be able to run return pump and a small heater no problem. It is a little two stroke motor, bet it is fairly loud.

Don't wait for a power outage. You should plan better then that, bring em over now.

Just build a 4 sided cube and line it with foam. Then you can direct the sound away from your house. My dad had one our our little 2stroke. It will take the edge off the sound
75G Mixed Reef w/ 30G sump/refuge

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

I wonder how accurate the fuel consumption is.  A std 20# cyclinder would last 13 hours

Not sure but if I run my main pump, skimmer, heaters, and furnace that's right at 1000watts so it should do good. IM not sure what my fridge and deep freeze pulls. Im sure I could add them if needed. + the furnace wouldn't run unless it was cold out.

I think I might go the solar route, a few solar panels & a battery backup to hold the juice is what I plan to do.  I saw panels with batteries for $230ish & I can't remember how much power they produce.  Not much but I figure enough to run a single pump.

I ran a single koralia 4 pump for 24 hours off of two deep cycle batteries and power inverter during our last storm. Both batteries went dead at about 24 hours. The Koralia was at the top of the water to suck in air for oxygenating the tank. So the solar panel and batteries with an inverter will probably work good.
