Title: Maxspect XF250 in a cube
Post by: Reef Tank 2.0 on April 16, 2021, 07:37:17
Has anyone ever used a Maxspect Gyre pump - XF250 in a 50 gallon cube?
I was wondering, even if i set them at the lowest power possible, if it would still be a bit much for this tank (24 x 24 x 20).

What about a 32x24x20?

Anyone have experience in doing this?

I assume there are others that are more suitable for these types of tanks, but I figured since I have two of them, I could re-use. (I do not have the tank set up yet)

I used 2 x XF350 in a JBJ 65 (36”x16”x20” or something close). When the pumps got dirty sometimes it felt like it could still use more. More flow is almost always good as long as it isn’t directly at the corals or kicking up sand.

Hmmmmm. I was debating on selling mine to get something  sized a little better for my (future) tank. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Try it with one, and proceed with the 2nd if need be.  Worse case, I sell them and move on. Thanks for the input.

Yup. Like you said at worst you can try it, and sell it if it doesn’t work out. Nothing wrong with that.

I use an XF-250 on each side of my 4’ 75 standard DT. When the pumps are clean, I can’t run them over 20% or it would rip coral flesh.

If you ever are ready to sell yours, let me know. I’m always looking for spare parts.
