RO/DI wastewater
« on: November 08, 2006, 20:56:12 »
ok, so my ro/di is hooked up finally (thanks matt).  how much wastewater should i expect.  it looks like i am getting twice as much waste and clean water.

Some RO/DI reject up to 90% of the water, your best bet would be to check airwaterice.com and see what the rejection rate or call Walter.

I have always read that the ideal waste:RO ratio is approximately 4:1. That is the biggest downside to RO systems, they waste a LOT of water.

I hooked mine up in the laundry room, and the waste line dumps into my washing machine, and I use the "waste" water to wash clothes in. At least then I don't feel like I'm wasting it.

from my experience, it is a wise investment to spend $5 at BFS to buy an adjustible flow restrictor for the waste line. Then check the specs on the membrane and set the restrictor so you get what you are supposed to get.

I have read claims of units that say zero waste. Whats up with that?

I believe that there are some units out there that run the waste water through a second RO unit and DI membrane, but I'd think you'd still get some waste. Someone on CORA was trying out a DI only unit that doesn't produce any waste.

i plan on this down the road.  here is a stupid question, what keeps the washing machine from overflowing?

you just have to keep an eye on it, then when the washing machine is full, I put the "waste" water line in the drain for the washing machine
