Have you considered a dip in Lugol's in case it's an infection?  Are you feeding it at all?  We had a lobo recently come in kind of recessed on a few heads due to rubbing the bag.  I fed it on and off for about a week and it recovered quickly with no more skeleton exposed.

Should I take it to someone and have them cut the dead part off with a frag saw?

Makes sense to me, I know a lot of people cut parts of acros and such when they are battling STN and rtn. I think I would try it personally.

The tissue is disintegrating ....  All of the other corals look like crap, all closed up.  I added new carbon and will do a water change tomorrow.. I think I'm gonna pull him, put him in a 5 gal bucket with a clamp on light.  I'd hate for him to nuke my tank

Sorry to hear that. Did you ever find cause? Or have any suspects

I think the candy hog fish sleeping inside it did it in.   That's the only thing I can think of. Ever since that it's been receding rapidly.
