anyone go to Gerber's anymore for fish?
« on: February 29, 2024, 13:37:47 »
I have been out of the hobby for a few years.

When I was up and running, I bought fish from Gerber's as well as other local stores.  Never had any issues.
With my tank finally in the cycle stage, it's time to start thinking about livestock again.

I did a google search on Gerbers.  The negative reviews as of late are very disappointing.  I know I won't know for sure unless I drive up there myself.  But just curious, has anyone on here been there lately and bought livestock?
Good or bad experience?

Make the trip to Discover aquatics instead. I won?t say anything negatively publicly.

That?s it! It?s a smaller store than gerbers, but you are going to get WAY better customer service and cleaner livestock and corals. The owner Andy is a great guy.

I will say you will find good and bad at every store.  Just got back from discovery aquatics about an hour ago.  They to have issues in some of there tanks - they did have a 20 % sale on all corals

Recommend you quarantine no matter where you get your fish live stock

80% of the fish in my tank are from Gerber's, but I agree with Amstar, I don't put anything in my tank from anywhere without quarantining first.

Been out of hobby for 8 years and just sit up new tank. Ready to add some fish. Called Gerbers on Friday and asked if they had any semi or full storm clownfish and how much. Reply was we have both and said the semi clownfish were on sale for 99.99 for the pair. Awesome, got in the car and drove 1.5 hours. Sign in attachment is what I saw when got there. Said I will take them and the girl leaves and comes back and says the price is 99.99 each on sale? I said that is not a sale price then and ask if she would call the owner John and verify.  She comes back and says owner said they are 99.99 each and the wrong price was written on them. There mistake and they wouldn't honor price written down for fish. Meanwhile the girl wipes of the word pair with her thumb right in front of me and said is that better. Needless to say the place looked like a rats hole and will never buy from them again while informing anyone and everyone of there scrappy business practices.

Wow! Good to hear from you Metz, other than your bad experience, how have you been.
