EMERGENCY! 60 gallon cube broke
« on: November 16, 2017, 05:20:40 »
We woke up to the sound of rushing water tonight and run out and our seahorse tank which is a 60 gallon cube split right down a seam. We need a 60 gallon drilled cube asap if anyone can help.

What do you think may have caused it?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Corals Galore is where the first tank was from if it leaked. I know from experience with them.

I believe it was originally from corals galore and i just bought a new one from them. While i dont buy much there, the tank is marineland so not really corals galore fault. Also i needed something asap.

Ya, my tank was a Marineland too. And so was the stand. They busted the stand apart to get the sump in. That is what caused the seal to fail on mine. TWICE. Twisting force. Even after Mr Arrogance resealed the tank himself.

If you had them custom make a sump and put it in your stand, I would definitely not use that stand again for the new tank. They caused me a lot of heartache and money for their shoddy work.

Just my humble opinion.

I bought it all used but it does have a sump that they probably made. I dont see how the stand would make it fail. If the stand is level and straight. If it wasnt straight it would put stress on the bottom glass and that would break.

You won’t notice the twisting until you have the weight of water, sand, rock, etc. The slightest bit of not being flat on the stand will cause a twisting pressure on the tank seals. You won’t even see it until it’s too late.

I’m only referring to my experiences with them. But I wouldn’t trust a d*%# thing that has been at that place. Theres a reason your seals failed. Tanks don’t just unseal themselves for no reason. There’s also a reason they’ve changed their name and shut their Facebook page down.

For your sake, I honestly just hope your luck is better. But please be cautious.

Dido on what ReefernTraining said, I had a Bio Cube fail because of a really bad stand. This was my first small reef tank and I did notice that the stand would move a bit but I failed to put 2 and 2 together to understand that this movement was putting pressure on the glass. We went to leave one night, looked over and the right side glass had a 9in horizontal crack in it - - - that tank was done.

Good Luck, hope the seahorses are ok! If you call Aquatics and Exotics in Mt. Healthy ask for Trevor or Jason(Owner) they are both really friendly and will help you. I have bought a lot of shelf stock from them over the years.

We picked up another new Marineland 60 cube and hopefully have better luck. I have a thin rubber mat under the tank to hopefully help with any weird pressures. I am also planning to add small glass triangle braces in the top corner. Tank is all up running again and the seahorses are very happy

Great to hear, good luck! The corner glass pieces sound like a good idea.
