Is anyone using the ROX 0.8 carbon from Bulk Reef Supply? Says it's much better but costs much more. If it works better, I will pay the xtra.

I don't.  I use their regular carbon and like it a lot.  Not much carbon dust when you rinse it.

Used Chemi Pure Elite $$$$$ and switched to regular bulk reef carbon and see no difference.

I use the same thing Scott does...don't see a reason to switch.

In a reactor? The small granual or large? And do you run it all the time or an on and off schedule?

I use the large in my reactor and this is a qoute from BRS site:

We offer two sizes of lignite carbon.*** The larger size is the same size as other common aquarium carbons, many people find this familiar size easier to use in equipment like reactors. The smaller size is the most efficient. It is going to be the best at removing color and pollutants from your water but does not work well in equipment like reactors.

Maybe someone has used the small?

I'm using the small lignite carbon from bulk reef supply and I like it its pretty small but still works in my reactor fine I got it because it was supposed to be more efficient than the large.

Is it any finer then gfo?  If not I wouldnt see why they would recommend it not be used in a reactor.  Can you use carbon in the same reactor as gfo?  I am only using half of my reactor with gfo and thought that I might want to use the other half with carbon.

It is slightly larger than the GFO pellets and I use both in separate reactors.  Not sure if it is a good idea to run them together if only because they may need changed out at different times.

I think GFO is harder then carbon. That is why they don't recommend it. I use the BRS reactor as well and it says to push the filter pad up against it tight so the carbon does not tumble but recommends a little tumble for GFO so it doesn't turn into a solid block.

I just run the pump full blast and it pushes all the carbon to the top and that way it doesn't tumble and break up.
