Very well written instructions......and it's a lot easier to do than one would think.  The biggest problem I ran into was getting the impeller off.

As I was reading the aforementioned well written instructions, I stopped at the separating the impeller part and looking at the threads of the shaft. I thought couldn't you use a very thin wrap of Teflon tape?

I just did this fun little disassemble about a week ago. Save yourself a lot of time and use this setup to get the impeller off: When the rear shaft is exposed, clamp that into a sturdy vice (I had to have a friend hold the table it was on because mine was quite a bit rustier) and then use a the rubber strap type of pipe wrench to get the impeller off. The rest is really easy to disassemble and you might want to replace the internal bearings while you're in there. They were $7.48 for the pair at this shop in downtown Springfield called Maders.

Dave,

This is super easy did mine Saturday, all you need is a big straight blade screw driver on the end with the fan to hold the shaft to unscrew the impeller.  Mine was rusted so bad the shaft wouldn't turn in the seals untill I broke it free,  the impeller came right off due to the stainless nut inside that won't rust.  Took all of 20 mins to do.

Use PB Blaster, WD40 isn't what it used to be.

Also don't be alarmed, the seals don't seal to the shaft.  They seal to each other to keep the water off the shaft.  It took me a few minutes of head scratching to see how they would work.....

Did you make sure that the seal in the pump housing is fully seated?  Also, did you use anything on the inside to ensure a good seal?  I  personally used a little silicone aound the outside edge just to make sure it was sealed good.

Can you tell if the shaft was bent or cracked in anyway? That would cause an improper seal on the shaft. Just a thought.

The shaft doesn't come into contact with the seals.  The two seals seal against each other.

Dave,  How far in did you install the ceramic seal into the impeller and did you reuse the rubber seal around it or install a new one?  My ceramic seal sticks out about 1/8-1/4 inch, about half the thickness of the seal.  The spring seal should sit flush in the housing and the spring side should touch the impeller when the impeller was tightened on the shaft. Before you put the housing on you should be able to see the spring seal compress and tell its sealing.

I would tear it back apart, inspect both seals to make sure neither got damaged....and reassemble.  If you still can't get it to seal, call or email Reeflo, they have been great to work with in my experience.

Sorry to hear this.  I didn't have this problem with my Barracuda, however when I purchased one of their hybrid pumps, I leaked like mad.  The ceramic part in the impeller on that one wasn't installed flush from the factory which caused it to leak only when running.  It would seal when sitting still.

Hi David, We received the Wahoo pump that you sent into us for repair. Unfortunately, the pump is about 6 years old and the bearings were not repairable in the motor because the front bearing could not be removed.
thats part of the email ok who wants to do it diy work shop?

If they couldn't get the bearings off.....you may have a real tough time with that one.  I'm guessing it's rusted solid......but that's just a guess.  Please take pics and document.....I want to see the carnage....lol

It's certainly fixable, but you might well be running into diminished returns. The amount of fenegalling required to get the bearings out is probably going to warp other parts of the motor... Either way, I'd love to take a look at it. If you can get it back in time, please feel free to bring it over for the meeting.

Yes please upload some pics of the bearings and shaft... My thoughts would be the shaft has more damage than the bearings... I've had a few stick but never to the point where I can't get them pulled one way or another.  If the shaft is rusted or damaged it may be a different story.

If it is just the bearing
Air chisel would make very short work of any of the bearings in that motor...  :be happy:

Lol, I was just playing on what wusue said about causing more damage to the motor/unit in the process of getting the bearing off....

Tannerite also comes to mind :be happy:
