Rock Structure
« on: March 23, 2018, 15:14:29 »
Well I have been following Mike's thread on his great looking tank build and thought I would have a go at trying the NYOS Reef Cement that he talked about while building his Aquascape. I think that this cement works great, very easy to mix, use and set up time is great. I have created 2 structures so far, I will post the second pic as well.

Thanks, I have the tank up and running now with a scape already in place but next week I will be switching my LED lights around. With this change I will redo my existing aquascape and add these two pieces, most of my pieces are raised in some nature or have narrow footprints so that the actual contact in my sand bed is minimal - something different.

How long does it take to cover that rock in algae

Say more, what type of algae? Not sure I understand your question - Coraline algae? If you mean this than my answer is not sure. I talked this with someone a few days ago, I do not get a lot of coralline algae on my rock - it seems to grow better in lower light areas versus on my rock?

This tank map shows my thoughts on rock layout / coral placement when I change my lights around in a week or so. The bridge structure and other 4 pieces by the overflow are already in place with the current layout. The longer piece that is sideways to the right is in the tank now, much longer, will shorten it up when I rotate it into position.

acan in the back with SPS up front might block the view of the acan's, id suggest moving them around.

Good point Eric, I have a couple smaller pieces(rock) that I could add as well, trying to create an open clean look. thanks for the input.

I'd also suggest Putting the GSP on the substrate and not letting it encrust

Too late with the GSP, it is an old rock that I have had for some time, that is why it is in the back corner alone.

have you planned out what actual corals you will buy, or are you still looking to get the majority of them?

Eric, I have a good deal of coral now, not to say that it will all stay but I had a lot of them in my 120g and was having issues in that tank so I moved them down to this tank for now. I have a hand full of acro frags, 2 BTA, 3 Rock Flower Nems, 2 red shroom rocks, 1 nice Elegance, 1 orange shroom rock, 5 really nice Red Yumas, purple stylo and Green birds nest -  you get the idea. I have no Acans and will look for more unique Acro frags overtime.
