Macro ID Question
« on: June 14, 2006, 10:18:25 »
Does anyone know what these two types of red macro algae are called? Both of them came in as hitchhikers about a year ago.

I'm not sure what kind they are but I have collected what I believe to be the same stuff out of the gulf of Mexico. Might be able to narrow your search by looking for gulf species of macro.

I have a bunch of the thinner type at the shop right now, pretty neat stuff!!

The mystery red macro algae came in on TBS rock from the Gulf and both types are really hardy.

The really thin stuff is gracilaria (see pic below). I purchased yellow and red gracilaria from Hawaii, but the same stuff grows in the Gulf as well and is identical to the stuff in your shop.
