Title: Toadstool Hole
Post by: SweetReefOH on August 06, 2018, 10:29:23
I noticed a hole in my massive toadstool.  About 3” away, the outer edge is coming apart. Is something wrong with it or is it trying to split?

Trying to split. When mine gets to a larger size it will frag its self this way. This can also happen if waste is allowed to settle on the crown, it can form a hole where it settles.

Thanks Doc! I thought that’s what it was doing cuz it’s not “rotten” looking.

What do you mean by waste? Sometimes sand gets thrown in the “bowl” by my fish, but nothing extreme.

By waste mean sometimes mine will collect fish poop, detritus, sand, sometimes even the shedding skin when it grows. If this stuff if not blown out by the power heads or by me with a baster then it will start to make holes in a couple days.
