Well I guess staying up late, you see cool things.   He wasn't looking for food, he was spawning.  Night pictures are a little tough.  The  release came from a small tube just behind his mouth.

Here is a video......I had to use a flashlight to get some lighting.   Ignore the sound......just the TV in the backgound.

They are excellent sand cleaners.   This guys is about 5 years old.    You just have to watch them, they are only chemical problems if they were to die.

How long after they die do you have to get them out? Say one where to die in the middle of the night & you found it in the morning, would it crash they whole tank in that time?

You should be able to notice a sick cuc, and deal with it appropriately.   I had one that never really made it past acclimation, I watched for a few days.....when it was not moving anymore, I got rid of it.  Nothing bad happened.
