from what i have seen it would take about a month to max out the gfo be for it need changed heck i put a pound in the reactor i hope it last more than a few days

gfo does last longer... it doesn't absorb as quickly or as much, and it doesn't release anything back into the tank... sponge absorbs much quicker and will begin releasing what it sucked up usually after 48hrs.

I started with 2 cups changed out every week. Cody, I'm doing some research on possibly doing the Sponge then GFO on a long term basis.

In a normal environment 4-6 weeks is fairly common. When dealing with issues and levels that Micki has it can exhaust in days. When I was dealing with the phosphate issue not to long ago 2 cups lasted 3-7 days. I tested by measuring the phosphates in the tank and the output of the reactor. When the output of the reactor was no longer lower then the tank water I new it was used up.
