copper + LR?
« on: August 04, 2012, 21:40:02 »
I received some fish last week & have coppersafe copper to put in the tank.  Should I keep the few pieces of LR in the tank (I have a wet/dry filter) or just PVC pipes and some dead rock that was treated with copper years ago?

Is the wet dry already in use (cycled) on another system?

If your going to dedicate that rock to QT use only, I say go for it.  It will contaminate it, and I wouldn't trust it in a reef setup again.

I would only use the PVC. The rock can make copper less effective by absorption where the pvc will not; and is by my opinion and others (that I have ask in the past) the best for cover durning copper treatment.  :not:

i didnt read the part that its going to be a qt tank, if that is all it will be used for, i see no harm. unless you are going to ever qt inverts then it might cause harm

thanks everyone..... I yanked the LR & did a copper dose last night.  Going to snag some bio-balls from my other tank to help speed up the cycling.... thanks

Sounds risky. Hope you don't loose all those fish.
