Title: DIY Moonlights.
Post by: Bwlr on March 14, 2008, 00:48:56
I was out in the barn fiddle farting around today, and I came up with this. :)

Someone gave me a flashlight that was broken, but the LED's and swich still worked. I took it apart...

I kept these...

and this.

I soldered some wire to the back of the LEDs.

I found some PVC that the cone shaped thing fit in, and then I hotmelt glued both sides.

Drilled a hole for the wire.

Ran my wire and LEDs into the tube.

Soldered some wire to the switch.

Gave it a couple coats of white paint, just to make it look purdy.

And it worked!  :D

3 second exposure full tank shot.

I glued the switch to the side of the stand.

Didn't cost me anything. I had all the stuff out in the barn.
An old 3v adapter, the flashlight took 3 AA, 4.5v.
The wire was just out there.
Same with the PVC.

Wonder if it matters if they are white rather than blue?

The stores sell both colors. White and blue.
I don't think it makes much of a difference though.

you can buy the blue ones on ebay with bare leads for like 20 cents. They still charge a few bucks to ship though(they sent mine in a regular envelope).Nice freebee by the way!

I've got some blue acrylic out there... maybe I could use it for a lens.

I'll see what I can do with it.

Thanks for the input.

Where you ain't got nothing to do, and you start tinkering with stuff, and then when you start making something you're "Fiddle Farting".
