Title: Skimmer selection?
Post by: Secondgen on December 20, 2007, 00:53:08
I would like some opinions for a good skimmer in the $200 range for a 75 gallon reef system with a 20L fuge. It does not have to be the best name brand or anything like that it just has to do a good job. All opinions appreciated. God bless.

I second the ASM suggestion put forward by Micki. I am running an ASM Mini-G on my 75. I have been pleased with its performance. At the time I got it I paid $99, but I suspect it's probably a good bit higher than that now.

I have had  an asm and octopus skimmer. Both are very good for the money. The octopus seamed a little sturdier and i liked the union from the skimmer to the collection cup better too.Could't complain about either one performance wise though.

Thanks for the suggestion all. My initial thought was an ASM I just didn't know if the smaller ones performed like the big ones. I have also heard great things about the octo skimmers elsewhere. Like I said this is for my friends tank. He bought a Coralife about a year ago and it has been giving him problems ever since. Thanks all, and God bless.

I noticed that the Octopuss skimmers looked a lot like the ASM skimmers.

I would reccomend the Turbo-Floater Multi, you can pick-up a nice used one on Reef Central for about a hundred. They skim great.

Thanks Baggerhog I will keep that in mind. I have always wondered how well the Turbo-Floaters work.
