How did you API test kit compare to your hanna?

The only API kit I have that matches is for calcium....and I haven't made it that far yet.  It's coming.......

I was looking at the API kits today and decided to not get any to do comparison with. I really just didn't like the reviews I have heard on them.

dkh is supposed to be between 7.1 and 10... ideally around 8.

I can't remember off the top of my head....where is my DKH supposed to be?

Anything below 8 and my SPS's start to die.  FOWLR and soft coral tanks do good at 7-8, 8 and up for LPS and SPS.  I've been really trying to keep my alk around 10-10.5 consistently, and the corals like it.  11.8 and up starts to get dangerous for the corals again.  My recommendation is 8.5-10 for most reef tanks.  A reef tank should never be below 7, according to everything I've read and seen.
90g SPS and LPS reef tank, 35g sump, ceramic rock by The Alternative Reef, Neptune Apex w 2 X EB8's, Moonlight module, ATI Sunpower Dimmable 8 X 39W T5's, Octopus Extreme 160 skimmer, PM Kalkwasser Reactor, 2 X Vortech MP40's, Geo 618 Ca reactor

Various thriving montipora, acropora, stylopora, wellsophyllia, blastomussa, hammer, anchor, and frogspawn, lobophyllia, rhizotrychus, pavona, scroll, and pagoda SPS and LPS corals, but no fish because I was too stupid to QT...

Im not so sure, I think the Hanna checkers are reading on the low side, I think Brian said he was getting about a 2dkh difference between salifert and hanna.

I wish I had a salifert test, but I don't.  I've got Red Sea ans Seachem for ALK....but that's it.  I'll play with that after I run calcium on the Hanna here.

Brian said the hanna meters for alk usually run 2dkh lower... so you really should be at  just under 8dkh

I think we are trying to see just how far off they are tomorrow.

Same here

Yes I found that to be the case with the club meter using Salifert Reference Fluid. For what it is worth the club meter is consistently reading low so if you could reference it you could always add or subtract the amount it is off. I dont know if it would be the same from meter to meter though

Interesting! I've found that my hanna alk checker is a bit *high* compared to API and Salifert.

Here's a review comparing the alk and low range PO4 to lab grade equipment- http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2011/8/review
