Give me a day.  I might be able to get 4" PVC at a lower cost......Free if anyone is interested.  What lengths would you be looking for.  I think the kalkenstein is 18"?

Anyone with a large water volume with med-high evaporation would want one in the 4-5 foot size. This is working great for me and have had no problems since I installed it.

Do you mind posting pictures of your kalk reactor?

I will post a pic tonight and I added 20oz of kalk to the Kalkenstein. I have not added anymore as of yet as I have only had this running for 2 weeks now. I am wanting a uniseal to put in the side so I can put a ph meter in but I cant find one that fits probe if anybody knows where i can get one let me know. I tried savko already and they dont have one.

You can purchase pH probe fittings from GEO.

Not sure, it  is the same kind  as used on all Geo calcium and kalk reactors. You may be able to see a picture of it by downloading the user's manual from Geo's website or looking closely at the pictures on the website.

What timer are you useing to controll this? How many times a day do you turn the pump on and for how long does it run?

Not 100% sure what Andy is doing but I use a digital timer I got at meijer.  I have it turn on for 1 minute at noon and midnight. Just look for a timer that can be set to the minute and not every 15 minutes.

I did have some ph swings but I attribute that mainly to topping off with a small Kalkenstien. I now have a DIY kalkenstein that is 5 foot tall and 4 inches in diameter. I am using a quite one 4000 as the recirc pump. since making the switch I have not had any problems. I had never heard of a skimmer causing a ph swing how does that work as I am still somewhat new to the hobby and still learning. Thanks again to Joe Ayers he helped me build the new DIY kalkenstien.

Well,
I have absolutely ZERO scientific proof or data to back any claims, or show how it does it a tall.
All I can tell you is it happened to me and several of my reefing buddies.
It went away with the addition of calcium for some and simply a liquid buffer for others.
There used to be alot f threads about this subject buzzing around the forums.

I wish I could get some data on how and why it does that though.

perhaps some peoples houses have more co2 in the air. i.e.  if you have a vent free gas furnace in a coral propagation greenhouse your air can actually lower the PH of the water so you always want a vented gas furnace in a coral greenhouse.

So if you have a large skimmer  in theory your air could affect a PH drop if your air is not properly vented in your house.

Just wanted to bring this thread to the top so anyyone wanting to see the skimmer when it was in action can. This is the skimmer that truely cleaned my tanks up. I am a equipment junkie and when I had the chance to get a skimmer even bigger well I was all for it.
