Specs on a Red Sea Berlin Skimmer
« on: August 22, 2010, 19:16:47 »
So I knew I have another skimmer around my house that I was going to use along with my super skimmer 220 on my ne setup. I can't remember if it is internal or external, and can't remember what size pump it requires. I know it is more than a mag5.

Anyone have some help for me on this?!

Sweet, now I just need to find a pump to power it. Any idea if there is a manual online for it? I'm sure I can figure out the hookup and drains on it, but not sure by looking at it how to adjust it.

If my understanding of this skimmer is right. You run it one of two ways. Big pump, throttled on the inlet to the skimmer, outlet of pump. Or small pump, throttled on the outlet of the skimmer. Option two would be my pick. The Venturi line in on the skimmers inlet right? So the air never hits the pump?

So I can get by with the mag5 I already have?

Thats what we are running on the berlin on the frag tank in the back room. Its water level is perfect with no adjustments.

I thought you said if I use a small pump, to put it on the outlets.

Well the skimmer inlet, and throttle back the skimmer outlet. So force water to stay into the skimmer :)

Now that I am awake and not trying to watch "The Return of the King" as part of the LOTR marathon my g/f and I had yesterday... I reread this and understand what you were talking about yesterday.  What is the best way for throttling back the outlets of the skimmer?

Cool, that is what I figured.  I could just bring the two outlets together with some vinyl tube and 'Y' them together into a ball valve.

you can put a 90 degre pipe at the end & just twist/turn the piece up to raise the water lever in there.

I think when I used a berlin skimmer I used a rio 2500 & it did a pretty good job.  They are not worth buying new but used still a good skimmer for the money

Cool, I will try it out.  I got this skimmer for free cause the guy couldn't get it to work.  It didn't even have the venturi valve in it when I got it.  So I put that in it but have never run it... successfully.

Does it matter how deep of water you put it in?
