Moving on up... New 125 Build
« on: February 28, 2009, 14:28:41 »
Just got the 125 up and running 2 days ago. Using 2 small fish for mini-cycle as I transferred some sand and rock over from the 46 to get the cycle over quickly.

Painted my stand black, I'm lazy so I just painted what you see on the outside. Using a 29 gallon tank as a fuge on the left side and a megaflow 4 wet/dry as the sump on the right.

Using a dual 1" HOB overflow rated at 1200gph.

Here's the sump and fuge plumbed in, 1 drain runs to the fuge and 1 to the sump, then the fuge drains into the sump. You can see my ASM skimmer in the sump there also. I would have liked to have a bigger skimmer but that was the largest one I could get and still fit under the stand.

Built the canopy, nothing special, running 6 x 80w T5s with Icecap SLR reflectors, and waterproof endcaps. 3 12" strip LEDs mounted down the center for Moonlights.

I went with 3 ATI Blue +, 2 ATI Aquablue specials, and 1 KZ Fiji Purple to give a 15,000K appearance. These pics are pretty blue on the computer, it's really not that blue in person.

I put the light rack in the canopy on sliders so I could move it out of the way to access the tank. You can tell it makes a big difference as there was only a few inches inbetween the front light and the tank lip.

Completed (don't mind the mess, I haven't cleaned up yet and my wife makes sure to remind me that every day)

I wanted to get a school of blue/green chromis and still plan on getting 5-6 more next week when my LFS gets them in but when I got there yesterday they only had 1 left so I had to get him a tankmate and a decided to get a Bangaii cardinal.

Finished moving everything over from the 46. I took out the smaller two of the 4 powerhads, I have mostly LPs and softies and a few SPS, I know the SPS like heavy flow but it was making the LPS and softies miserable.

Thats where the radioactive dragon eyes and the other nice yellow zoos I got last night went. I still need to get a couple more colors, I want to have all the tonga branch in the tank covered by zoas.

Picked up my first anemone today. It's a bubble tip that has green to red tentaces. I was hoping it would stay in that little hole I set it in but it has already started to migrate. I just hope it starys on the rocks where you can see it and doesen't go hide behind something and never see it.

Not the greatest shots.

I was kind of nervous last night cause it disappeared behing a rock but it popped back out on the other side this morning if it stays where it's at now It will be cool, not the best spot for viewing but not terrible either.

Got a chance to get some better pictures this morning. The nem crawled behind a rock last night, but emerged this morning as hasn't moved in a while so maybe it's found a home.

Armor of god Zoas

Long lash Eagle eye Zoas havent really opened up all the way yet.

And the RBTA

I have a disease I think. Was bored today so I drove around to a bunch of fish stores.  Got a pair of media reactors to run pos-ban and carbon in. Also, got a couple frags and a new fish. Spent some time taking pictures also so here are some new ones.

Media Reactors

Here is the whole wet/dry set-up

Full under stand shot. I picked up a new light for the fuge this week also, I used to just use one of those clamp on lights with a 30 watt spiral flourescent bulb. New light is a corallife 2 x 18w Frehwater T5 strip 6700K and full spectrum bulbs.

Took some macro shots of the pods in my fuge.

Yellow and Blue Ricordia

Acan

Bar Goby (Ptereleotris zebra)

Fed the RBTA some shrimp. Coolest thing I have ever seen watching it swell up to swallow the shrimp.

The macro shots are really cool and looks like you have taken full advantage of every nook and cranny underneath the tank.  Keep the pics coming sure makes the forum more enjoyable.

I noticed you already added the 2 media reactors. At least the red bulb didn't blow out yet. I'd still give it a minute before I'd say he was good, but All seems well and if he is eating I mean. Just wait till your tenants get there they'll be like wow

Stopped up at the Coral Ranch today and picked up a few things. I got 2 more cleaner shrimp for $9 each, thats the cheapest I have ever found them. Also, got some nerite snails, new to nerities but they look cool and were $1 each, so we'll se how they do in the tank.

Anyways here are the pics of the new stock.

Armageddon Palys

st.Thomas Ricordea (not al that bright hopefully it colors up)

I also decided to see if I can rescue this wall hammer (he said they had a shipping delay and this died off some so he gave it me for almost nothing)

If have read the trade clowns thread you know I was looking for a clown that would host my RBTA. Well I found one at world of pets in florence. He guy said these were rare and relativly hard to find. I know I haven't seen one at a LFS yet. I'm going to try and house both clown species for a while to see if they can co-exist, so far so good no agression yet. But the Allardi loves the RBTA.

Are Nereits (sp?) the snails that live in and around tide pools and need to be out of the water at times?

Not sure about that. From what I read they can live in freshwater, brackish or saltwater, but they need brackish to breed.

Got bored this evening and realized I didn't have any pics of the tank with just the moonlights on.

Full tank shot.

Here are some coral shots under the moonlights, it's not really this bright at night just barely bright enough to see whats going on in there, I had the shutter speed set slow to get better detail in the pics.

Octo Frogspawn

Duncans

Ricordea

Armageddon Palys
