Title: Aptasia and majanos anyone
Post by: kellyj on March 23, 2021, 13:25:04
Been battling aptasia and majanos in my display tank for a while.  I've tried kalkwasser, Aptasia-X, majano wand, and lasering them.  So far nothing permanent.  Looking to try natural predators.   I've read about filefish, raccoon butterfly, peppermint shrimp, berghia nudibranch, and bi-color angels having some success.  Has anyone tried any of these for anemone problems?  Not sure what to try first.

Reading through a thread on copperbands and there are quite a few comments on them tearing up all their aptasia

Been trying the wand without much success. Probably time to return that soon (apologies, just didn’t see anyone else ask for it on the thread so haven’t worried about it). Looking at nudibranchs based on what I’ve read. Peppermint shrimp haven’t done much.

I think peppermint shrimp work if they are hungry. Mine eat to good so they aren't very effective. Will wrasse's or damsel's eat the nudibranch?

The one I had was a beast, but he developed a taste for clams, never bothered my corals.

The Kline’s butterfly is just terror to them. I keep one in my sump which had hundreds upon hundreds when it went in. Took a few weeks but it’s been clean for almost a year now. Hit or miss on corals though.
