Very odd question... but Does anyone Sew here?
« on: November 21, 2011, 10:44:48 »
Anyone do any sewing? and is also on the up and up on sewing machines? Wife has been wanting a new one, so I am going to get her one for christmas, but this stuff is a foriegn language to me... I know how to sew, but I've never used a machine and not sure what I am really looking for in one... just trying to save myself some reasearch time.

I think part of the kind you get could be determined by what she will be using it for?  Clothes, other projects that might involve thicker material etc.

Yeah I guess I should have listed that... I am looking for general purpose... but I want it to have the ability to do some thicker/multiple layer materials aswell...

The brunt of the use will be lightwieght materials and short runs, And Perhaps alot of different type of stitches.

My mother is a avid sewer, she just purchased a Husqvarna machine, which is upper class of sewing machines, and also the mfg of a lot of other lines, ex: I think singer is made by them.  She also popped for the package that will allow her to do cnc embroidery directly from the computer.  I know she absolutely loves it, and she picked it up in C-Bus somewhere.  If you need more info, I can get it for you.

JD's mom sells $4,000 CNC quilters if you want to go that route :)

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

I like the husqvarna models, but they really only have 2 lines that I think she would even use, the emerald and sapphire... They both look great as far as specs and reviews... but the price is driving me away... I have no problem spending that if I knew it would get used enough to deem the purchase but I am not sure if she would use all the little things that make it that expensive enough over say a 200-400 machine...

She wanted a little Brother job from walmart, but I know that once she gets into it she will want to do more and quickly outgrow that machine, so I want to make sure I get her a good one that will be able to cover a majority of the projects she wants to take on,  which will be beginner-intermediate abilities.

She will use it alot for general repair, curtains, blankets, maybe clothes, she makes my daugther alot of craftys stuff but she sews all that by hand atm and she really wants a machine to speed up the process. I don't think weight will be an issue as she has her own crafting stationso it will be staitonary (really a entire level to herself, the whole upstairs is her domain, and the basement is mine)

I was looking at some other brother and singer models... I know stitch count was inportant to her, but I am just not sure what else I am looking for when I compare spec ROFL... soooo hard... she might just get a gun for christmas instead ;P maybe a bowling ball or a new fishtank

Cody did you get my PM from my sister in law?  Don't get a gun, "you'll shoot your eye out kid!"

Speaking of that, my son is getting my Granddaughter a pink ryder bb gun for Christmas!  Against his Mother's wishes!  UGH!!!  Yes by the way, that is what she asked for.  She certainly didn't get that from her Grandmother!  :o

lol i have penty of guns and I still have both me eyes ;P and if I do shoot one out ohwell, God gave me a spare ;P

And Yes I did get your email, and I have been looking at them... I think my price range is going to be 200-400 just cause i dont think anything more expensive will get used enough to warrant the purchase...

maybe i could forward a few links to you and you can see what she has to say about them? if you/her dont mind

Just another + for husqvarna.

Some dealers sell used machines and have a full value trade in should she decide she would like a higher end machine later on.
