Test kits
« on: December 06, 2013, 22:40:51 »
Was wondering what test kits everyone is using now a days? What test kits would you like to have? I wish there was a test kit you could just put a drop of water on and it would give you a digital read out of everything. No chemistry set. That would be nice.

Salifert.  I have tried several others and like the ease of salifert mixing wise and the color changes are pretty obvious.

this is a good question because until recently I thought Red Sea were good. Just the other day I read on another site how the Red Sea mag test kit is notorious for reading 1600 all the time.

I have always used the Red Sea kits. I have never gotten a 1600 reading.

yeah if you google "red sea magnesium test 1600" you will see a bit of what i'm talking about. Bad test kits can happen with anyone and this could have simply been a bad batch.

I use a mix of Salifert and Hanna.

I'm hoping these come out and are reasonably priced.  I think I could swallow the up front price tag of $600.......but it's that monthly wheel you have to swap out that will either make or break this item.

API for calcium and Alk, Saifert for Mag. I have heard the API test kits take a lot of heat but have found them to be not only reasonably priced but easy to use and reliable. I believe it was Ashlar that had a post on here a few months ago, it was pretty informative and proved the API were pretty close to a lot of more expensive test kits.

This would be cool. If the recurring expense wouldn't be out of this world.
I'm surprised there is not a probe that could be plugged into the Apex that could monitor everything. Real time alk, cal, mag, po4 ect...
