Want to Borrow - 48" Strip Light
« on: October 31, 2009, 21:28:12 »
Does anyone have a 48" long aquarium light lying around that we could borrow for a couple of weeks...or one for sale for really dirt cheap?  We don't need anything fancy...just something to give enough light over the 150g to let the algae grow while we're building the canopy.  Thanks!

At lowes, they have flourescant double strip lights for cheap. I bought some for a few tanks a while back, I think they were only $10 or so.

I have a 36" 96w PC you can use if you don't get a 48" light. The bulbs are pretty old and its guaranteed to grow algae!

Nikki, I have some 36" and 48"  strip lights you can borrow if you have not already got one. I have mostly standard watt, and least 1 dual tube (40x2) 48" fixture, and may have some retro's etc. I can meet with you today (sunday) if you'd like and let you look at what I have.

I have a 48" 110W PC strip light with no bulbs that you can have.  I used it for my 'fuge on my old tank but ended up having no use for it with the new tank.  (My wife uses the same model light for her cutting table, so the bulbs have ended up getting used.)

pc = power compact
no = normal output florescent
ho = high output florescent
vho = very high output florescent
t5 t8 t12 are florescent bulbs and this is how the size is measured. the number after t equals the number of 8ths of an inch the diameter of the bulb. t8 is an inch wide bulb t5's are smaller and 5/8ths and t12's are an inch and a half wide

mh de = metal halide double ended bulb
mh se = metal halide single ended also called mogul

led = light emitting diode

Sorry I forgot about this...got wrapped up with work and 30 million other things.

I took a suggestion to just get a strip light from Lowes to tide me over...plus we can install it in the garage when we're done with it.

Thanks for all the offers!!!
