Pic of my tank
« on: September 08, 2011, 21:23:14 »
I know its bare.  I added live sand last night and it was cloudy so this is a pic from this morning.  Should be cleared up a lot more by the time I get home tonight.  I need to purchase more live rock and do some arranging.  Any suggestions?  I did buy a eshopps 100 hob and two koralia evo 1400..   I also bought 2 100w visi-therm heaters to put one of each side...

I like it a lot. Simple looks good, don't forget to add a solid color or black background before you get to much equipment behind it. Makes it hard.

OOOO!  I never even thought about that.  Thanks for telling me.  I'll pick some black up from the petstore tomorrow.

I want to add maybe a few more of the purple looking live rock.  I think it looks really nice.  I need to move them closer to the front as I think they're touching the back of the tank.

I moved it around to a larger group on the left side and  2 small rocks on the right.........  I spent all night last night after I got home from work trying to arrange them and I can not seem to be happy with anything..  AHHH!  I should have left it how I had it in the beginning..

Don't get discouraged, when I did my 90, I rearranged the rock a lot before I was happy with it.  And I did it when it was full of fish ...   :th_doh:   You'll get it the way you want it.

chances are your rocks wont stay the way you have them 100% anyways so I would just roll with it for now, it will slowly come to you later... also things always look different when they are covered with corals and have fish swimming around them...

Just make sure you add penty of hiding spaces for your fish... the more hiding spots they have the less hiding they actually do.

I would reccomend taking the rock on the left side wall and move it out so you can take and clean the side wall easy with a mag float.

Looks great. + 1 on moving it from the side wall a bit to get the mag float between the rock and glass.

Now that looks great. Lots of room for the fish to swim above the reef, a cave and plenty of hiding spots. Good work

PH: 8.2
Nitrate: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Ammonia: .5

Now what do I need to do?

Once your ammonia hits 0 assuming at that time your nitrite is still 0 you can slowly add livestock. Might want to up temp about 2-3 degrees.

I turned my heater up a tad.  I'm surprised my numbers were what they were since its only been up almost a week.  Is this normal?

Yes it looks normal. Have you been putting in waste i.e. food for the bacteria to feed on?

You can feed your tank a couple times a day as if you were feeding fish. This will build up the bacteria to a level that will be able to consume the fish waste when you add them. If not you could have another mini cycle (ammonia spike) after adding fish.

Can I add frozen brine shrimp?  The only other kind of flake food I have is for the freshwater fish if that would work?

I don't think it really matters all that much. You just want to put something in there that the bacteria can consume and build it's population in preparation for the fish.

flakes or anything mashed up works great, more surface area, more places for bacteria to get to and consume the food faster as they breed.

Does it look like I have to much LR?  I am going to get 3 green chromis and then a few months get the tomini tang and then call it done until I get a bigger tank.

I'd like to do a 125 gallon long tank.  Instead of getting a tomini will a chocolate tang be okay until next year?  I wished I had waited and did more research and gone bigger, but I want to finish this before I start another project.
