Lights on, Lights off ?
« on: July 17, 2006, 16:13:56 »
Hows everybody doin, good I hope. My question is I am currently cycling my tank, and wanted to know if you cycle with lights on or lights off. I have the tank on a timer that runs the lights for 8hrs a day. My thinking on this is that the 8 pounds of once live rock will start growing under the again. Is this right or a waste of power?

waste of power.  just clean your skimmer and do water changes.  There is no need for light during a cycle.

You need something to start the cycle if your rock is not alive now.

if the rock was alive with coraline i would run lights to preserve it, if no live no use....unless you have lots of money and electric bill is of no matter and you want to get the coraline growing again

The rock did not have alot of coraline on it to begin with, but it had only been out of the water for a couple of weeks. How long does it take it to become a dead rock again?
