Title: Lightningfronts 28 Nano Cube
Post by: lightningfront on April 09, 2010, 23:50:19
Well as some of you know I have been breaking down my 125 and I decided not to get out of the hobby completely. I decided to go with a 28 NanoCube CF Quad just because it's the cheapest version. I do not plan on using the 105w CF Quad hood that it comes with, and I did not want the standard HQI version because of heat issues.  I have a 150w 14K HQI Hamilton Cayman Sun Pendant Kit on order and will be hanging it over the tank with a fan to hopefully control the temp without the need for a chiller.

Picked up 30 lbs of rock all together today from a few different places.

Nice Surprise, one of the little rocks I got has about 10 heads of these deep red zoas, hopefully they survive the cycle ok.

Just for kicks I took some PAR measurements with the tank filled on the stock quad PC light.

looking good, did you ever consider the LED hood they make for the 28 nano? it is 89 watts of LED awesomeness, very little heat, and appears to be 50% brighter than the 150w MH (I have seen them side by side).  oooh, you also dont have to replace the bulb every year.

Thought about it. Read some reviews where people were not happy with the coral color under the LEDs.

Thanks.

I rigged up an aquacave deluxe ATO  kit. Figured on a tank this small an ATO is a necesity to keep salinity in check. Just used a left over 5 gal salt bucket as the reservoir, had to use a stronger pump to get it all the way up to the back of the tank. The stand is actually really tall from what I'm used to. I need to re-form the hanger bracket but it's working great.

Tank is through the cycle and I moved the few coral frags I had left out of my previous tank over, and a new one or two. Picked up a couple black line oscellaris as the tanks first fish along with about 30 cerith, a few astrea, 10 small nassarius, and a skunk cleaner for the cuc.

The live rock I bought had some hair algae and I was hoping it would go away with running chemi-pure, cheato and using RODI water but doesn't seem to be receding more like growing.

Looks real good. Nice clean layout.

The live rock I bought had some hair algae and I was hoping it would go away with running chemi-pure, cheato and using RODI water but doesn't seem to be receding more like growing.

As for the hair algae keep a eye on your Nitrates and Phosphates keep them as low as possible in no time it should start to recede.
Also turbo snails,Nerite snails, green emerald crabs have been known to help.

Sold off some more equipment from my old tank today so I went to visit the LFS. Picked up 2 emerald crabs to help with the algae, and some frags.
