So what needs to eat aiptasia? this is the first reason that comes to mind when i see it in an invert tank at Gerber's. Any other ideas?

It’s hard to convey sarcasm online lol. Those are definitely aiptasia, but if you put a fancy name with it you can sell it!

As long as the aiptasia doesn’t get too large, copperband butterfly fish and peppermint shrimp will eat them, but the aiptasia usually spreads so rapidly that it’s hard for them to keep up. I have heard of people injecting lemon juice, scalding hot RO/DI or kalkwasser into the mouth of each one and it will kill it off.

I have taken home aptasia on frags from Gerber's twice in the past year. I don't understand why they don't do a better job of controlling it, especially when they have peppermint shrimp for sale there.

I almost took a pic yesterday but didn't, it was bad... Prices seemed much higher than normal as well.

i was getting hermit crab shells and she took some from this tank. I flushed them out with tank water in the sink, but now i am watching the tank.hopefully if i carried some in they will be on the shells and i can remove those before it spreads.

The way I fixed it was to remove the frag and dump salt on it and let it sit for a half hour (just the aptasia hiding underneath, not the coral on top). That would work for the hermit shells too, as long as the aptasia hasn't spread off of it.
