Diy $0 ATO
« on: December 13, 2008, 14:33:44 »
I was tired of filling the tank with buckets and I will be gone for 2 weeks during Christmas so a DIY ATO was in order.
Pretty much this idea here: http://www.reefworkshop.com/DIY_floatswitch1.htm

Did it all with free stuff i had laying around $0.  So far so good at keeping the water level.

75G Mixed Reef w/ 30G sump/refuge

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

Great.  I was left for Christmas and 15days & over 40 gallons later the sump was still full and the floor was dry.  The only change i have made recently is i extended the distance from the pivot to the switch (to allow for more travel for positive shut off and you get more upward force from the longer moment arm.  I just add water to the reserve bucket couple of times a week.  It is so much better than adding water several times a day.

Good find. I tried to search for this a few weeks back when you asked me, but couldn't find it.
