« on: October 02, 2006, 03:36:34 »
I am looking for some sugestions on a calcium reactor. Which are good ones and which to avoid. I am looking at 250-300 gallon system. I will be using my octopus 3000 to controll it.

marine solutions has the octopus cr140 dual. very well made and a fraction of the cost of some others.

fraction of the cost because they are made in China

If you want a US made product that is actually made here in Ohio (Columbus area I think) GEO is a great option for anything that he produces.  He's also a hr away or a phone call away for any service issues

If where they are made doesn't matter then go for the octopus
300g tub o fish

calcium reactors are super expensive. it looks like you can build it for half the cost. although the controller, co2 tank and gauges are a big chunk of money too.

the material alone is about $120. not including the pump and fittings. Thats asuming you have the equipement and skills to make the flanges and base. I have access to the right machines and decide to buy one instead.

the place i work at has everything i need to make just about anything. The most expensive part of this i think will be the co2 tank and regulator. a good regulator will be about $100-$130. I found a 5lb tank for $80 new. I can get a 6" and a 3" X 12" long X.25 wall cell cast tube for about $35 dollars. A good deal through work. The fittings and adpaters are cheap and i have solid pvc bar stock at work.  I can make anything i need.
