Title: New Tank
Post by: Todd W. on September 23, 2012, 18:20:09
Well going back to college has been delayed pending an imminent job change, (just happened).  The Bethel Science Teacher (Ms. Mosley) has been asking if I am putting another tank in her room.  The answer was no initially until I came across a 14G biocube at a garage sale for $30 missing the ballasts, the tank is nearly brand new.  I wrote to Oceanic and they donated 2 new ballasts  :be happy:.  I plan on setting up the tank week after next after I get some things together for it.  I plan on using 1/2 water from my tank, the live sand, and donated live rock to hopefully eliminate a cycle of the tank.

This year hopefully doing it smarter with a smaller tank, and no sump.  The 46g bowfront last year was toooooo much maintenance.  This tank will require less top offs that can be done manually too.

What we have:
Tank, lights, return pump
Timer
Power Strip
Bag of live sand
Water and Salt

What we need:
Heater for a 14g (all my extras are too big)
Circulation pump for a 14g
Live rock to fit in tank, about 30 pounds or so
Corals
Fish
Hermits
Snails
Shrimp

I am going to arrange a time with Ms. Mosley for the set up and I will post here if anyone wants to stop by like we did last year.

Please let me know if you can donate anything.

Thanks

Todd

I think the all in one nano is a great tank for the school. I can donate strombus grazer snails and coral.

Tank is up and running with water and bagged live sand.

Does anyone have some well seasoned live rock with a good bioload in it to help reduce the cycle?  It's a 14 Gallon Nano so not much is needed. Please contact me.

I plan on donating my pistol and shrimp Goby once it is ready.  They are currently in a 3 gallon nano.  I have 3 rocks out of it that I will put in the tank tomorrow but they are small.

@Kenn - sent you a PM

@Jeblin - we'll see what Kenn and I have to combine.  May take you up on a piece or two to use for the class as an example of how a reef can adapt to a new environment.  PM me.
