Disappearing Anemone
« on: October 27, 2006, 14:08:24 »
Ok, I "had" an anemone in my 40 gallon tank downstairs.  The tank was getting taken over with macro. I have ignored it for a while now due to so much going on here.  I saw the anemone a few days ago. It was hige!  This morning I couldn't find it.  I took all the LR out except the ones that were too beg for me to do on my own.  For those I looked them over turned them upside down and checked them out to see if the anemone was in there and nothing.  I can't find it anywhere!   Any ideas???

I had a carpet mushroom that was a pretty decent size for my tiny tank disappear on me.  Still don't know where it is.

it could have melted away.  it only takes a couple hours for them to turn to ooze when they die.

But 1.  What would have caused it and 2.  Wouldn't there have been some bad effect in the tank from something that large dying?

1. hard to tell without the carcass.  could have been old age, disease, not enough light or any of millions of other reasons.  2.  maybe.  i would guess that as large as your system is, it would have been very hard to detect any changes.

I thought about my system being big enough not to show illeffects, but, the tank that it is in is a very slow flowing tank.  I would think there could be an amonia spike at least in that part of the system. I have a few fish and some crabs and snails in that tank and they all seem to be fine.

the crabs probably made short work of it, assuming it died.
